Next release version 0.3 details
Monday 08 February 2010 - 18:01:38
The next development release of MBO will support a very simple basic pitching and hitting mock up. It will not be too fancy or automatic but will be focused on a functional mutliplayer setup with game making capability and limited character setup menus.
Once again this will be nothing like a game. Just an updated development environment for us developers.

Heads Up New Development Release Tommorow
Sunday 03 January 2010 - 23:43:00
There will be a new release version 0.22v of the development source tommorow. This is not a playable game. There is still no batting and pitching but this is a more stable base to work from then the last build, so I wanted to get it out to people.
Dont forget to send me the stuff you are working on so I can include it in the builds.
You can see screenshots from this release here.

Moving Along
Tuesday 29 December 2009 - 21:16:33
I expect another code release in mid January. I am hoping that this will include at least a mock up of batting and pitching in multiplayer. Alot of work has been done to optimize the performance of the build. Some cool new items made by the community will likely make it in the next build. Thats encouraging to me becuase I really need to find some help.
I am not sure of the status of the second stadium. It might make it in. Certainly the chat server has been stabilized. It might not look like much to some people but the entire backbone of the game is pretty much in place. Game play is the last thing to go into the game.
One thing I should point out is that the downloads are not games. They are development builds. Completely differant then a game. So stop coming into the server and asking to play baseball lol. You can come in and enter the stadium but a bug prevents you from doing it a second time. I am fixing these bugs and eliminating them as I find them. But releasing the code was a great help to me because now I can test the game online with people. Found a ton of bugs that way.
We will see how this progresses. So far I am please with progress, but perhaps am a bit off schedule. We will see how much help I get.

Thanks Everyone!

Man it sure is great to have you all helping me. I even got to get in game and run around the field with Didzo. That was the first time anyone evey made it to the field with me in multiplayer. I am busy fixing things that I can see now. It was amazing just how smooth the networking was when we got in game and that it even worked.
Anyway in the begining things will be frustrating and slow, for instance I took the chat server down to fix a bug. Got my first bug report today cool. Can someone find a good and simple bug reporting system? This is going to work much better open source. I hope a few of you decide to stick with it for the long term and find a way to help.

Major Project Update
Thursday 10 December 2009 - 20:12:22
**************************************************************
**********************************************************
MBO v0.2 Pre-Alpha Source is released.
http://mmobaseball.org/ReadMe.html
**********************************************************
**************************************************************
I am planning on releasing the entire game source and making the whole development open source this weekend. The license will be completely free meaning anyone can use the art assets, models and code in anyway they choose. (except for a few sound files)
This will include the source files for the stadium, the player models and everything else and I mean everything.
So if you want to help with the art, build your own stadium, you could just down load the latest files and see the latest copy of the game. You might also fire up Unity and directly work on the game and modify the art work or even work on the code!
There will be developer forums opened for the purpose of communication for those working on the game.
The one thing will be that you can only download the game source you may not upload it. And I will be posting a series of builds. Also I will be posting a series of instructions in how to work on certain aspects of the game. What fun!
There is much to be gained from having an open source game. When the time comes to release the game the game will still stay open source but the actual release builds will be changed and only the hack prevention software will not be included.
I hope to see a community of developers show up and start helping with the game. I probably have 4 requests a week to help and normally dont respond to any. Its very time consuming for me to set everyone up and explain it all. This is my way of responding to those requests.
This is a big step forward for the game effort. I think those that download the game source and contribute to the development will get a big kick out of it.
See you all on the field.

Throwing the Ball in MBO
Monday 16 November 2009 - 21:20:06
It took me a bit to tranistion from the front end work to the game play development. Now that I have a solid base to work from its game play time.
Now I am working on throwing the ball. I know I promised a video long ago but I wanted to get a bit of gameplay in the video. At least picking up and throwing the ball and catching it in multiplayer would be nice.
I had to work a couple days on the throwing animation. Tonight I got one animation for the throwing down. But there are 4 sets of throwing animations to do.
I am engineering in the quick throw from the get go so it will be there for sure. Funny thing is now I understand why the quick throw worked in RBO.
You see if you allow the player to move while the throw animation is playing you screw up the animation. So the player has to be still during the time the animation plays. So if the player is stopped you can go right to the throw animation. If the player is moving you have to play a slow down and stop animation. So you can skip that step if the player stops first. Therefore its faster to throw if the player is allready stopped and you can just proceed with the throw animation. And thats why quick throwing working in RBO.
After I get the throwing down I think I will do a video. So December for the video.

An update
Sunday 08 November 2009 - 19:28:54
For those following along. I wanted to let you all know that the so called front end beta has come and gone. I have progressed to working on the game play. I have also ordered the server.
I did implement a fireworks system and a head movement system in the last 2 weeks. The fireworks are just for coolness. The head movement system allows players to turn their head and sholders to watch things like the baseball and other players.
I spend some time today changing out the cleats on the males shoes so they would be as cool as the females. Although most of what I normally work on is so mind numbingly boring that you dont want to hear about it. Those are the highlights :>
So things are moving along.
